Handicap Format — How it works
It’s classic Kiwi handicapping: slower groups roll first, faster groups chase. Work smoothly with your bunch, keep the pace honest, and time your move. First over the line takes the win and the glory; fastest time prizes reward the speed merchants.
Which category should I choose?
Pick the one that matches your usual racing grade or the pace you’re comfortable with. If in doubt
FAQ
Is this a good hit‑out before bigger events?
Absolutely. Fast roads, one honest climb each lap, and a town‑centre finish — perfect for sharpening form.
Is it hilly or flat?
 Both. Rolling terrain with
one decent climb per lap, then a quick run home.
Are aero bars or e‑bikes allowed?
No aero bars in bunches. E‑bike eligibility (if any) will be specified in the
Race Manual and entry form. (Open‑road bunch‑racing norms as used on comparable Canterbury events.)
What about refunds or transfers?
See the entry form for the refund/transfer policy and any weather contingencies.
What are the road rules?
NZ open‑road rules apply at all times. Marshals are there to guide, not to stop traffic. Ride to the conditions and respect locals.
Where’s registration?
 At
Waikari Hall, 99 Princes Street, Waikari. Easy access off SH7, right in the heart of the Hurunui.
Can I see the entry list or start list?
Yep — check the [Entry List / Start List] page before race day.
Is the race on open roads?
Yes. NZ open-road conditions apply. Follow all New Zealand road rules ; marshals are there to guide, not stop traffic.
