Waikari Classic —

Bruce Dawe Memorial

Saturday 13 December 2025 Waikari, Hurunui

Canterbury’s heritage handicap — fast, honest, and seriously good fun.

The Waikari Classic brings old‑school road racing back to the back-blocks: 100 kilometres on three laps of a 33 km loop (approx' 513 m total elevation), one proper climb each lap, and a town‑centre sprint finish that’ll have you grinning like you’ve just nicked a prime. Registration at Waikari Hall on Princes Street; racing starts 8:30am sharp. Field rolls out under handicap — slower bunches first, hitters chasing. First across the line wins; fast legs still get paid. (Registration venue: Waikari Hall, 99 Princes Street.) thanks to  Pringle Homes  .

Big prize money

Over $2,000 prize pool: $500 Fastest Woman, $500 Fastest Man, $500 First Across the Line. Plus spot prizes and bragging rights for days.

Real racing, open roads

Rolling rural tarmac, a stinger of a climb each lap, and a roaring run back into Waikari. (Open‑road racing: see safety notes below.)
